Visit to Jamali Kamali Park, Mehraulil, New Delhi

Jamali Kamali Tomb - Mehrauli

The Jamali Kamali mosque and tombs are located near Qutab Minar on Mehrauli Gurgaon Road, just opposite to the Jain Temple. This place is known as “Jamali Kamali Park”. Jamali kamali park is maintained by DDA Delhi. This place is very much clean and green.  If you like walking, I can say it’s a very nice place for you….
The construction of the mosque was started around 1528-29 during the rule of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire but was completed during Humayun’s reign.  Opposite to Jamali Kamali mosque is a stone canopy, standing prominently on a mound. This is ‘Metcalfe’s Folly’! And there are many more in the neighbourhood, all forming part of Thomas Metcalfe’s famed ‘Dilkhusha’. The Dilkhusha comprised a Mughal tomb converted into residence, a boathouse, a carriageway under which flowed a stream and an artificially created lake! The lake no longer exists but the monuments survive, giving us an idea of its magnificence!
In the park there is a place called “Rajon ki Baoli”  a step well, now completely dry. Adjacent to it is a mosque with some pretty plaster decoration and a tomb with remains of tile work. Climbing to the roof of the mosque, one gets and excellent view of the ruins and vegetation around and parts of Mehrauli settlement.

3. Metcalf
Metcalfe’s canopy was built by Charles Metcalfe, in the early nineteenth century as an attempt to make it look like a building of an earlier era. Since the canopy is located at a higher elevation, it provides an excellent location for a good view of surrounding areas.

4. A nice landscape................

5. Kqli Khan ka Makbara (Mosque and Tomb)
Mohammad Quli Khan was the brother of Adham Khan. The two brothers were generals of Mughal emperor Akbar. It was constructed in the early seventeenth century.
You can see Qutab Minar from the Quli khan tomb...
